  • Human Resources Internship/Co-op

    The HR internship is designed to help students apply what they have learned in a classroom setting to an HR department located in a manufacturing environment.  The internship will give the student exposure to a variety of areas of HR including, but not limited to, recruiting, compliance, training, performance management, HR administration, benefits and safety.  The student will also have exposure to a cross-section of employees and various levels of management within the organization to enhance their learning experience.

    This internship/co-op opportunity will begin in September, 2017 and run through December, 2017.    There will be an opportunity to extend through spring semester and beyond depending on performance and business need.  Actual days and hours will be dependent on student’s class schedule, but will be approximately 15 – 20 hours per week.

    Essential Functions of the Internship:

    • Recruiting: Help facilitate the logistics for various career fair events; manage the company website career page; post jobs internally and externally as opportunities become available; collaborate on development of new hire on-boarding process
    • Compliance: assist in the implementations of various process improvements as the result of various HR audits; assist in the roll-out of updated employee handbooks
    • Training: Assist in the development of content for monthly supervisor lunch & learn training programs; Manage the external resource training grid; identify internal training opportunities
    • Performance Management: Collaborate with HR Manager to implement an annual review tracking system
    • HR Administration: Help with monthly birthday/service award lunches; employee events; file clean-up
    • Benefits: Assist with open enrollment process (fall internship)

  • Maintenance Technician

    Position Description:

    The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties.    Responsibilities may include building, installing and maintaining equipment, performing preventative maintenance and repairs and applying knowledge in a variety of skilled trade areas.

    Current job hours are 6:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Thursday, subject to change, with the possibility of over time.  May be required to visit our Juarez, Mexico facility on occasion.

    Primary responsibilities of the role:

    • Installs, maintains and repairs machines and equipment in plant and related facilities
    • Performs a variety of preventative maintenance on parts, pumps, motors, hydraulic systems and related plant and facility equipment.
    • Performs a variety of maintenance requiring knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, carpentry, electrical, electronics, welding and other skilled trades as appropriate or applicable.
    • Operates a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery in the maintenance repair, and fabrication of parts, machines and equipment.
    • Completes work orders and paperwork regarding daily maintenance and repair duties
    • Assists with contractors and subcontractors
    • Ensures compliance with operating policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and efficient operations; may require wearing appropriate safety equipment and gear
    • Assists with maintaining a safe and clean work environment and may perform various janitorial or housekeeping tasks.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Education/ Certification / Experience Required:

    • High school diploma or GED or trade school certification or certificate program completion
    • Minimum of five years of experience in a maintenance role in an industrial/ manufacturing environment
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a US Passport

     

    Skills & Knowledge Required:

    • Good knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and overall general maintenance
    • High mechanical ability
    • PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) experience
    • At least one year of HVAC experience
    • At least one year of Pneumatic experience

  • Sales Application Engineer (Wichita)

    Position Description:

    The Sales Application Engineer interacts collaboratively with our customers to provide technical customer support as part of a team with Outside and Inside Sales as part of our total customer support technical selling solutions. Will possess understanding of current Wescon product lines with ability to develop mechanical controls based on customer meetings/discussions and assist our customers in selecting the most cost effective standard product for their application.  Travel up to 25-30% with outside sales managers supporting and collaborating with customers along with developing key customer relationships for future business growth.  SAE’s will draft conceptual design sketches via AutoCad/Inventor 3-D and coordinate the sampling of products to customers.   This is a customer focused position and must have strong communication skills with a positive approach to work with multiple levels of sales, engineering and product managers.

    Primary responsibilities of the role:

    • Works as a team with Regional Sales Manager, Sales Coordinator and Project Engineer supporting an assigned group of customers in the successful implementation of product requirements.
    • Point of contact for customer technical inquires.
    • Creates initial conceptual design sketches via AutoCad/Inventor 3-D to meet our customers’ needs of existing standard product after successful collaboration with our customers engineering group.
    • Coordinates with Project Engineer for any new product designs needed for initial conceptual sketches and tooling quotes.
    • Works in conjunction with Regional Sales Manager and Sales Coordinator to quote and sample controls for approval by the customer.
    • Will travel to customer locations working with their engineering group to develop cost effective creative solutions for their application requirements.

    Education/ Certification / Experience Required:

    • BS in Engineering Technology , A.S. in Design Drafting, or related technical degree equivalent in the management of engineering projects with technical sales
    • Experience using AutoCad, Inventory 3-D and/or Pro-E software
    • A minimum of two years of drafting experience and/or two years of technical sales engineering experience
    • Ability to work independently with little supervision
    • Minimum of two years’ experience with customer focused projects

    Education/ Certification / Experience Preferred:

    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a Sales Engineering role

    Skills & Knowledge Required:

    • Ability to learn or familiarity with 2D and 3D drawing programs

  • Key Account Manager (Milwaukee, Minneapolis or Rockford area)

    Position Description:

    The Key Account Manager role is responsible for all account activities involved in managing the relationships with existing customers as well as identifying and cultivating relationships and profitable revenue growth with new strategic accounts.

    Primary responsibilities of the role:

    • Performs proactive customer visits, both with existing customers and potential new strategic accounts, to establish strong working relationships with team members and engage in interactive problem solving and selling. Includes efforts relative to existing applications as well as new project and product development requiring close engineering collaboration and attention to detail. Primary account locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska and others as assigned.
    • Develop and foster strong working relationships across entire scope of customers’ organizations – includes procurement, application engineering, sales, marketing, quality, finance and accounting to improve and grow relationships in execution of our overall business plan.

    Sales Planning:

    • Develop and execute sales plan to drive stable share growth and financial results. Management of key inputs to develop and manage sales reports, financial reporting docs and support of annual sales plan. Will include monthly and quarterly reporting of results.
    • Facilitate internal monthly team meetings to ensure communication and collaboration on open projects and customer requirements are being managed effectively across the entire Wescon Controls team

    Financial Management:

    • Provide a monthly financial review identifying key metrics of the business along with an updated P&L. Communicate monthly update for the financial performance leading to the annual forecast. Demonstrate compliance to the forecast along with a discussion on competitive threats and/or opportunities.

    Other key responsibilities:

    • Work closely with inside Sales Coordinators, Sales Application Engineers, Project Engineers and Quality team to expedite day to day issues and customer requests to fully meet customer expectations
    • Identify and make recommendations to management team on emerging markets, trends, product gaps and new opportunities.
    • Must maintain and deliver seamless communication between customers, manufacturing locations and internal team members
    • Work with internal engineering and application team to develop costing and manage quotes/pricing to customers on completed Engineering projects
    • Participate in Customer Application Reviews to ensure proper fit-up and tolerances on existing and new projects
    • Provide input to internal Engineering and Marketing team on product design and information for published materials and collateral on product specs
    • Participation and support at Trade Shows and industry events will also be required

    Education/ Certification / Experience Required :

    • Bachelor’s or Technical Degree required. (Will consider significant and relevant experience in lieu of degree)
    • A minimum of 5 years of outside sales experience within relevant or adjacent business
    • Strong mechanical aptitude required and ability to collaborate with design engineers and product/project managers in efforts to provide technical assistance and support of controls requirements in the sales process

    Skills & Knowledge Required :

    • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).
    • Working knowledge of Wescon and industry products and applications is preferred
    • Strong aptitude in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint required. Must have ability to develop PPT presentations to support company and product line details for initial sales calls, special projects, product launches and other required streams of information.
    • Experience and ability to conduct technical presentations to large customer groups and key stakeholders

    Physical Demands:

    • Extensive travel in territory with visits to Wescon Controls corporate office in Wichita, KS, manufacturing facility in Juarez, MX and possible customer visits to their global facilities/plants.

  • Project Engineer

    Position Description:

    The Project Engineer is a hands-on role providing broad customer support in the design and the coordination of the testing, prototyping, drafting, sampling, tooling and the initial production of a line of mechanical lever controls, tension cables and push/pull control assemblies.  Wescon Controls serves a wide group of customers who are manufacturers of lawn and garden, agricultural, construction, marine, automotive, recreational vehicle and outdoor power equipment.  The Project/ Implementation Engineer will provide quality products and support to meet or exceed customer expectations.

    Primary responsibilities of the role:

    • Assists the sales department in supporting an assigned group of customers in the successful implementation of new or existing product requirements and if needed travel to customer locations aiding customer engineers in the application and design of control systems on their equipment.
    • Works in conjunction with various internal and external departments to design, prototype, test and sample new products for approval by the customer.
    • Coordinates the tool design, tool manufacturing and first part approval of new parts and/or assemblies and supports production in the manufacturing of products under his/her direction.
    • Responsible for finalized bills of material, planning and initiates production product launch

    Education/ Certification / Experience Required:

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related equivalent with five or more (5+) in the management of engineering projects.
    • Five or more years (5+) in manufacturing and process capability with product design in plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die-casting, general manufacturing, automation and assembly.
    • Demonstrated ability in AutoCAD, Inventor 3-D and/or Pro-E software as well as a thorough understanding of Windows Office operating systems.

     

    Education/ Certification / Experience Preferred:

    • Experience in the design of control systems relating to lawn and garden products, agricultural, construction, recreational vehicles, marine, automotive or outdoor power equipment.
    • Familiarity with LEAN initiatives and environmental issues such as RoHs, Reach and IMDS.

    Skills & Knowledge Required:

    • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and customers.
